Questions People Ask

If yours is not here, call the shop on 610-323-4626 and ask.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. The Widow’s Son is appointment only, which is how you get an artist to yourself for a whole session instead of sharing one with a waiting room.

Call 610-323-4626 or send the quote form and we will find you a date.

How much is a tattoo going to cost?

There is no price list, because there is no such thing as a standard tattoo. Size, placement, detail, colour and how many sittings it needs all move the number.

Send the idea through the quote form with a rough size and a reference picture and you will get a real estimate back rather than a guess.

Is there a deposit?

Yes. A deposit holds your appointment and comes off the price of the tattoo on the day. The amount depends on the piece, and we will tell you exactly what it is when you book.

How old do I have to be?

Bring a valid photo ID to every appointment — no ID, no tattoo, no exceptions, however well we know you.

For anyone under eighteen, Pennsylvania law requires a parent or legal guardian to be present and to consent in person, with their own ID. Call the shop before you book so we can tell you exactly what to bring.

Can you cover up an old tattoo?

Often, yes — Eric does a great deal of it. What is possible depends on how dark the existing work is, how big it is and where it sits.

Send a clear photograph taken in daylight, not under a lamp, and you will get an honest answer: cover, rework, or a suggestion to lighten it first.

What styles do you tattoo?

Between Eric and Tom the shop covers American traditional, black and grey, black and grey realism, new school, lettering and script, colour work, ornamental blackwork and cover-ups.

If your idea sits between two of those, say so. That is usually where the interesting ones come from.

Can I bring my own design?

Bring whatever you have — a photograph, a sketch, a screenshot, another tattoo you like the feel of. All of it helps.

Everything here is drawn custom for you, so you do not need to arrive with a finished design. If you do have one, we will talk to you about whether it will hold up at the size and placement you want.

Do you do walk-ins?

No. Appointment only, both for tattoos and for piercings. Call the shop and we will get you booked in.

What should I do before my appointment?

Eat a proper meal beforehand and drink water. Get a normal night’s sleep. Wear clothing that lets us reach the spot without a wrestling match. Bring your photo ID.

If you are unwell on the day, call us. We would far rather move the appointment than tattoo somebody who should be in bed.

How do I look after it afterwards?

Your artist gives you aftercare in person, for the piece you actually got, before you leave the shop. Follow that rather than something you read on the internet, because it is specific to your tattoo, your placement and how the session went.

If anything looks or feels wrong while it is healing, call the shop early rather than late. We would always rather look at it.

Do you do touch-ups?

Talk to your artist. Bring it back in and let them see how it settled — that is a conversation for the person who did the piece, not a policy on a web page.

Who does the piercings?

Denise Kemmerling-Haag. Ears, nose and the standard placements, by appointment. See the piercings page for how it works.

Where are you and where can I park?

1000 Grosser Rd, 3rd Floor, Gilbertsville, PA 19525. Third floor.

Call the shop on 610-323-4626 if you have any trouble finding the door.
